“For people without disabilities, technology makes things easier. For people with disabilities, technology makes things possible.” IBM, 1991
Communications, housing, employment, independence, in home supports, caregivers –these areas all can be enhanced by technology for people with disabilities.
With the generous support of The Arc of the US, The Coleman Institute, and Comcast NBCUniversal, The Arc of Philadelphia launched its tech coaching program. Initially targeting transition-aged youth, the program now serves all ages.
Through the tech coaching program, The Arc of Philadelphia staff demonstrate how individuals with disabilities can use technology to live more independently. It is no longer necessary to incorporate expensive, customized pieces for everyone’s situation; tech that we use every day can be harnessed. For example, our tech showroom includes the following pieces: Amazon Echo Show, Amazon Fire Cube, Ring Doorbell and Camera, Bluetooth Lightbulbs, and an Emergency Light.
